Warts are dome-shaped growths on the skin caused by viruses from the human papillomavirus (HPV) family. There are over 100 different types of warts, which are generally harmless and often disappear on their own. However, it can take up to two years for a wart infection to clear completely.
Warts are contagious and can spread through direct contact with the virus. In the case of genital warts, transmission occurs through sexual contact. After infection, warts typically develop within three to six months. Children are more prone to warts than adults.
