Zolmitriptan

Description

Zolmitriptan is a medication used to treat migraine headaches. It belongs to a class of drugs known as triptans. Zolmitriptan works by narrowing blood vessels in the brain, which helps to relieve pain from migraine headaches. This medication is suitable for adults who experience migraines with or without aura.

Dosage and usage

For migraine relief, the usual dose of zolmitriptan is 2.5 mg or 5 mg taken as soon as your migraine symptoms appear. If your symptoms improve but then return, you may take a second dose after at least 2 hours. Do not exceed a total dose of 10 mg in a 24-hour period. If your migraine does not improve after the first dose, do not take a second dose for the same attack. The effects of zolmitriptan can last up to 24 hours. If you experience chest pain or a sensation of tightness, heaviness, or pressure in your chest or throat after taking zolmitriptan, seek medical help immediately.
