Truvada

Description

Truvada is a medication used to treat HIV infection in adults. It contains two active ingredients, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil. These components work together to help control the HIV virus and prevent it from multiplying in your body. Truvada is suitable for adults who are HIV-positive and are prescribed this medication by their healthcare provider to manage their condition effectively. 

Dosage and usage

You should take Truvada exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dose is one tablet once a day, with or without food. Make sure to follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. If you have any concerns or questions about your dosage, consult your healthcare provider. 

What Truvada contains

Each Truvada tablet contains 200 mg of emtricitabine and 300 mg of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate as the active ingredients. The tablet also includes excipients such as lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and others. 

Side effects

Common side effects of Truvada may include headache, dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include lactic acidosis, liver problems, kidney issues, and bone density loss. If you experience any severe side effects or allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing, seek medical help promptly.  

Precautions

Do not take Truvada if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have kidney disease or bone problems. Truvada is not recommended for children. Pregnant women should discuss the risks and benefits of using this medication with their healthcare provider. If you have a history of heart conditions or are taking certain medications, consult your doctor before starting Truvada.
