Sumatriptan is a medication used to treat migraines. It works by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain, relieving pain and other symptoms of migraines. This medication is suitable for adults experiencing migraines with or without aura.

Dosage and usage

You should take Sumatriptan as soon as you feel a migraine coming on. The usual dose is a single tablet taken with water. If your migraine comes back after the initial dose, you may take a second tablet after at least 2 hours, but do not exceed the maximum dosage of 300 mg in a 24-hour period. The effects of Sumatriptan can last up to 24 hours. If you experience chest pain, tightness in the chest, or throat after taking Sumatriptan, seek medical help immediately.

Each Sumatriptan tablet contains 50 mg of sumatriptan (as succinate). The tablet also contains microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, and magnesium stearate.

Common side effects of Sumatriptan include tingling, dizziness, and feeling warm or hot. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and shortness of breath.

Do not take Sumatriptan if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart problems. Avoid this medication if you have had a heart attack or stroke. Sumatriptan is not suitable for individuals under 18 years of age. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications like MAO inhibitors, discuss with your healthcare provider before using Sumatriptan.
