Seretide is a medication that contains two active ingredients, fluticasone and salmeterol. Fluticasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in your airways, while salmeterol is a long-acting beta agonist that helps to keep your airways open. This combination is used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Seretide is suitable for adults and children over 4 years old who have asthma or COPD that is not well controlled with other medications.

Dosage and usage

You should use Seretide exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The usual dose is two inhalations twice a day, morning and evening. Do not use more than the recommended dose. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. The effects of Seretide can last up to 12 hours. If you experience sudden wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, or coughing after using Seretide, seek medical help immediately.

Each dose of Seretide contains 50 mcg of salmeterol and 100, 250, or 500 mcg of fluticasone propionate. The inhaler also contains propellant HFA-134a.

Side effects

Common side effects of Seretide may include headache, throat irritation, hoarse voice, and fungal infections in the mouth. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain, increased heart rate, tremors, and paradoxical bronchospasm (sudden constriction of the airways).

Precautions

Do not use Seretide if you are allergic to fluticasone, salmeterol, or any other ingredients in the medication. Inform your doctor about any heart conditions, high blood pressure, seizures, thyroid disorder, or diabetes. Seretide is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women unless advised by a healthcare professional. If you are taking other medications, especially beta-blockers or diuretics, consult your doctor before using Seretide.
