Reminyl is a medication that contains the active ingredient Galantamine. It is used to treat symptoms of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's disease. Galantamine works by increasing the levels of certain natural substances in the brain that are involved in memory and thinking processes. This medication is suitable for individuals experiencing memory impairment, confusion, and difficulties with daily tasks due to Alzheimer's disease.
You should take Reminyl exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The typical starting dose is 4 mg twice a day, preferably with morning and evening meals. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose to help minimize side effects. The maximum recommended dose is 24 mg per day. It may take several weeks to experience the full benefits of Reminyl. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Each Reminyl prolonged-release capsule contains 8 mg or 16 mg of Galantamine (as hydrobromide). The capsules also contain additional ingredients such as microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, talc, and methacrylic acid ethyl acrylate copolymer.
Common side effects of Reminyl may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include fainting, chest pain, slow heartbeat, difficulty urinating, and seizures. If you experience any of these severe side effects, seek medical help promptly.
Do not take Reminyl if you are allergic to Galantamine or any other ingredients in the medication. Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, heart rhythm disorders, stomach ulcers, or seizures.
