Lixiana

Description

Lixiana is a medication that contains the active ingredient edoxaban. It belongs to a group of medicines called anticoagulants, which help prevent the formation of blood clots. Lixiana is suitable for individuals who need to reduce their risk of stroke or blood clots due to conditions like atrial fibrillation or deep vein thrombosis.

Dosage and usage

You should take Lixiana exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The typical dose is one tablet per day, with or without food. It's important not to exceed the recommended dose, as this can increase the risk of bleeding. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it's almost time for your next dose. In case of any unusual bleeding or if you need to undergo surgery, inform your doctor.

Each Lixiana tablet contains 30 mg, 60 mg, or 150 mg of edoxaban. The tablets also include excipients such as lactose monohydrate, hypromellose, and magnesium stearate. These components help maintain the stability and effectiveness of the medication.

Common side effects of Lixiana may include bleeding, bruising, and dizziness. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include signs of bleeding like unusual bruising, blood in urine, or black stools. Allergic reactions to Lixiana are rare but can be severe, so seek medical help if you experience symptoms like rash, itching, or swelling.

It's important not to use Lixiana if you have certain conditions like artificial heart valves or active bleeding. Pregnant women should avoid taking Lixiana, as its effects on unborn babies are not known. If you have a history of liver or kidney problems, inform your doctor before starting Lixiana. Individuals on other blood thinners should consult with their healthcare provider before using Lixiana to avoid potential drug interactions.
