Galvus contains the active ingredient Vildagliptin, which is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by increasing the levels of insulin produced after meals and decreasing the amount of sugar made by the body. Galvus is suitable for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and usage

You should take Galvus as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual dose is 50 mg taken twice a day, with or without food. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your individual needs. It is important not to exceed the recommended dose. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Each Galvus tablet contains 50 mg of Vildagliptin as the active ingredient. The tablet core consists of microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, and magnesium stearate. The film-coating contains hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol, talc, and iron oxide yellow (E172).

Side effects

Common side effects of Galvus may include headache, dizziness, and upper respiratory tract infection. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include signs of pancreatitis such as severe stomach pain, which may radiate to the back, with or without vomiting. Allergic reactions to Galvus are rare but seek medical help if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
