Emla Cream is a topical anesthetic used to numb the skin before certain medical procedures or injections. It contains a combination of two active ingredients, lidocaine and prilocaine, which work together to block pain signals from the nerves in the skin. Emla Cream is suitable for adults and children who may experience discomfort or pain during procedures like vaccinations or minor skin surgeries.

Dosage and usage

Apply a thick layer of Emla Cream to the skin where the procedure will take place, then cover with a dressing to keep it in place. The recommended dose and application time may vary based on the procedure and your healthcare provider's instructions. Generally, Emla Cream should be applied at least 1 hour before the procedure. Do not exceed the recommended dose or apply to large areas of skin. If you experience any unusual symptoms or if the skin appears blue or pale after using Emla Cream, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Each gram of Emla Cream contains 25 mg of lidocaine and 25 mg of prilocaine as active ingredients. It also includes other components such as carbomer, sodium hydroxide, purified water, and more as excipients to ensure stability and effectiveness.

Side effects

Common side effects of Emla Cream may include redness, itching, or swelling at the application site. Serious side effects like methemoglobinemia (a blood disorder) or severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.
