Eliquis

Description

Eliquis is a medication containing the active ingredient apixaban. It belongs to a class of drugs known as anticoagulants or blood thinners. Eliquis helps prevent blood clots from forming by inhibiting certain clotting proteins in your blood. This medication is suitable for individuals who need to reduce their risk of stroke and blood clots due to conditions like atrial fibrillation or after hip or knee replacement surgery.

Dosage and usage

For most conditions, the typical dosage of Eliquis is 5 mg taken orally twice a day. Your healthcare provider may adjust this dosage based on your specific medical needs. In case of an overdose or if you experience unusual bleeding or bruising, seek medical help immediately.

Each Eliquis tablet contains 5 mg of apixaban as the active ingredient. The tablet also includes excipients like lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, and magnesium stearate. Common side effects of Eliquis may include easy bruising, nosebleeds, nausea, and minor bleeding. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include prolonged bleeding, black or bloody stools, and signs of a stroke such as sudden numbness or weakness. If you experience any severe allergic reactions like rash, itching, or swelling, seek medical help promptly.

Eliquis is not suitable for individuals with artificial heart valves or those at high risk of bleeding. If you have a history of stomach ulcers, liver or kidney disease, or are pregnant, consult your healthcare provider before using Eliquis. People with certain heart conditions, such as valve problems, should use Eliquis cautiously. Additionally, inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, especially other blood thinners, to prevent potential interactions.
