Elidel is a topical medication that contains the active ingredient pimecrolimus. It works by reducing inflammation in the skin, making it effective in treating eczema. Elidel is suitable for adults and children over the age of 2 with mild to moderate eczema.
For adults and children over 2 years old, apply a thin layer of Elidel to the affected skin twice daily. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. If you forget a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. The effects of Elidel can last for a few days even after stopping treatment. If your condition worsens or does not improve after 6 weeks of use, consult your doctor.
Each gram of Elidel contains 10 mg of pimecrolimus as the active ingredient. The excipients include benzyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, white petrolatum, propylene glycol, and mono- and di-glycerides of caprylic/capric acid.
Common side effects of Elidel may include a feeling of warmth or burning at the application site. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include severe itching, redness, swelling, or signs of skin infection. If you experience any of these, stop using Elidel and consult your doctor promptly.
Do not use Elidel if you are allergic to pimecrolimus or any other ingredients in the product. Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds while using Elidel. If you have a weakened immune system or skin cancer, consult your doctor before using Elidel. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also seek medical advice before using this medication.
