Efracea (Oracea)

Description

Efracea is a medication containing the active ingredient doxycycline, a type of antibiotic. It is used to treat inflammatory lesions (papules and pustules) of rosacea in adult patients. Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in your face. Efracea helps reduce the inflammation associated with rosacea, leading to an improvement in your skin condition. This medication is suitable for adults who are dealing with the symptoms of rosacea.

Dosage and usage

You should take Efracea exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The usual dosage is one capsule daily, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. It's important not to crush or chew the capsule. You may start to see improvements in your skin after a few weeks of treatment. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. If you experience severe side effects or no improvement in your condition, contact your doctor.

Before taking Efracea, inform your doctor if you are allergic to doxycycline or any other tetracycline antibiotics. It's essential to mention if you have liver or kidney disease, as dosage adjustments may be necessary. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and tanning beds while using Efracea, as it can increase your risk of sunburn. Pregnant women, children under 12 years old, and individuals with certain medical conditions should not use Efracea. If you are on blood-thinning medications or have heart problems, consult your healthcare provider before starting this treatment.
