Caverject (Alprostadil)

Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dosage of Caverject for you. The usual starting dose is 2.5 to 5 micrograms, which can be adjusted based on your response. You should not use more than one dose in a 24-hour period or more than three doses per week. If you experience an erection lasting more than four hours, seek medical assistance immediately.

Each dose of Caverject contains a specific amount of alprostadil, ranging from 5 to 20 micrograms. The injection also includes excipients like lactose, alfadex, and sodium citrate.

Common side effects of Caverject may include pain at the injection site, dizziness, or minor bleeding. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include prolonged erections (priapism), signs of an allergic reaction like rash or difficulty breathing, or sudden vision changes.

Do not use Caverject if you have a history of conditions like sickle cell anemia or if you have a penile implant. This medication is not suitable for children, pregnant women, or individuals with certain heart conditions. Make sure to inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking, especially blood thinners, before using Caverject.
