Aldara is a topical cream used to treat certain skin conditions caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), such as genital warts. The active ingredient in Aldara is imiquimod, which works by stimulating your immune system to fight the virus that causes warts. Aldara is suitable for adults and children over 12 years old.

Dosage and usage

Apply a thin layer of Aldara cream to the affected area before bedtime, rubbing it in gently. Wash the cream off after 6-10 hours. Use Aldara 3 times a week for up to 16 weeks as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. If you experience severe skin reactions, stop using Aldara and consult your doctor.

Each packet of Aldara 5% cream contains 12.5 mg of imiquimod. The cream also includes isostearic acid, benzyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, white petrolatum, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, glycerin, xanthan gum, purified water, and methylparaben.

Common side effects of Aldara include redness, swelling, itching, and flaking of the skin. Serious side effects may include severe skin reactions or allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or severe skin irritation.
