Constipation is a common condition characterized by infrequent or difficult bowel movements. It affects around 15% of the population and is often accompanied by symptoms such as stomach pain, bloating, and the urge to go to the toilet without being able to pass much stool. It is frequently associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
The causes of constipation can vary. They may include a narrowing of the intestine, poor intestinal muscle function, hard and dry stool due to insufficient hydration, a diet lacking in fiber, the use of certain medications, or pregnancy.
